I agree with Jason; this is fascinating. The last 15 billion years as expressed in a 10 minute video filmed entirely of found objects and graffitti-style art. From Big Bang to big bang in 9:55. Props to "BLU".
As a graphic designer I live to please all of my clients and it is always my hope that the respect/care I give them will be returned. Through many pitfalls I've compiled this list that will help you recognize when to say "when" in picking clients.
The quick fix...
Be warned, most people who claim any job as "quick" have no idea what goes into design work. Sometimes these jobs turn into the most time consuming of all and the client will probably not understand why.
It's so simple!
What looks simple to a potential client may in reality be a huge project! If you were unfamiliar with all that goes into a design and you drew/scanned something, you might think it would be easy too! But as we all know, a lot more work and thought can into something simple than something that appears complex.
This should take you no time at all therefore, I am paying you next to nothing.
Pretty self-explanatory but let's address this anyway. I have NEVER taken a job like this where it didn't turn into twice the amount of time and a lost of wages. That's not to say there isn't someone nice out there who just needs a simple tweak on their logo. But most "nice" people do not admit up front they don't think the skill to do the job is worth anything. Next!

Another one to run from because either;
They are another designer and it's never going to meet their expectations. The client really knows nothing about design but wants you to think they do.
Either way it's kind of shady to begin with and I'd stay away from it.
To all my fabulous clients out there this obviously does not apply to you! Especially since I haven't take a job with these phrases in a long, long, time. But hopefully, you can avoid this too and take a tip from my own mistakes.
Love this little video. One of the great privileges of serving with GIs is being part of the unique, off-center humor the guys share. I spent some time with a whole bunch of guys just like these troopers of the HHC, 1 BN, 21st INF, 25th ID, and have been grateful for it ever since.
The last several days have been hot, mid to upper 90's, which...is where my daughter jumped in my lap and caused me to post this prematurely. Sorry. Here's the rest of what I meant to post;
Anyway, it's damn hot. And to add to the entertainment, my usual commute home blew up Wednesday, trapping me and about 7-800 other commuters on northbound McLoughlin Blvd. as an old (as in 60-year-old) 12-inch water main deconstructed, flushing out the subgrade from under 1/8-mile of street.After a half-hour wait in the 90-degree heat I managed to turn around, find a local place to eat (and several hefeweitzens...), and after an hour...it was STILL a parking lot. Wednesday evening I left the office door at 5:05 and stepped through my own at 7:15. Yikes.
The kiddos have been sweethearts - having their Auntie Kathie here to give them a daycare break has helped. But we're going to need to pool time if this heat keeps up. Air conditioning and nonstop kidvid is NOT a good substitute for getting outdoors.
Oh. I should probably mention that it turns out that I have developed an intestinal ailment.
There are people whose nature it is to suffer from interesting and picturesque ailments. "Consumption". Now there was a disease. You wasted away delicately, fastidiously, Greta Garbo dying scenically in "Camille".
Or leukemia. You could get somewhere with leukemia - hell, Campbell Scott dawdling grave-ward with leukemia managed to nail Julia Roberts in that perennial topic of Oscar-neglect, "Dying Young". Those are diseases a guy can make work.
But this one? Nope. This one will forever be associated with SNL's Joe Piscopo and Robin Duke moaning that they have diiiiverticuliiiitisssss... Yes. I have diverticulitis.
The is just no fucking romance in that.
Aside from the lack of theatrically pale wasting away, I've been taking antibiotics for two weeks, which, if your internal workings weren't screwed up before is guarenteed to screw them up fairly thoroughly. And I have been living with the sensation of having a roughly hamster-sized object wedged in my lower gut, which is about as much fun as it sounds.
Frighteningly, comprehensively good. Young good, fast good, creatively good. Good in front, good at the back, seeming to get better with every game they played. Too good to question. So good that the outcome today seemed like an afterthought; the game wouldn't be a contest, but a confirmation that Germany had only one last step to take to win the world's soccer championship for the fourth time in history.
Except someone forgot to tell eleven Spaniards that.I normally love Spanish football. It's fast, flowing, daring, and creative but with the hard edge of good defending that has made them Europe's best side for the past four years.
But this Spanish side had underwhelmed me. Starting with the shocking opening loss to the lowly Swiss, their group games were dour, they seemed to do just barely enough to get by. I had little hope that they would relieve my Oranje the nightmare of being defeated - again - by Germans in the Final.
But hope - from the head of the Spanish defender Puyol - came in the form of a 1-nil defeat for the German side, which must go home feeling hard done by, their offensive genius perhaps crippled by the suspension of the brilliant Thomas Muller.Did I mention that this is a cruel game?
So now there's one more game. Spain will play the Netherlands for the chance to be the first team from their nations to bring the world's cup home. The other nation's team will go home in bitter regret.
